Just throwing it out there.
I'm just trowing this out here to see your opinions, but I'd love to see a re-vamped installer in TheHostingTool. One that isn't (too) dependent on the rest of THT.
I'm looking into how MyBB does their upgrading. Looks nice.

RE: Just throwing it out there.
I JUST revamped the whole installer for the previous version :L
It could have more checks in it. It's good that it's dependent on THT, or it's more of a problem to make. EG Ajax. THT has it all built in and there. Jonny H - THT Main Developer & Founder |

RE: Just throwing it out there.
AJAX is nice in an installer in all, but it seems that too many things go wrong sometimes. It'd be easier to have the installer be somewhat stand-alone. That way we much less to debug.

RE: Just throwing it out there.
The only things which go wrong now is the php warnings in the footer. Thats it.

RE: Just throwing it out there.
This would also allow upgrades for version to version. For instance: 1.2.1 to 1.2.5

Yes but they're in tpls. :o
But it also lacks anything besides SQL changes. Like let's say for this one version you needed to do something special. Kevin Mark - TheHostingTool Lead Developer |

(09-28-2009 07:34 PM)Kevin Wrote: Yes but they're in tpls. :o That something special would be file changes, as usual. Every upgrader only does SQL changes. The sql files are stored in the includes and they're text files. If we rename UPGRADE to it's version number, and then have every upgrade sql file in the folder then the script would run every sql up tho the current file. Jonny H - THT Main Developer & Founder |

RE: Just throwing it out there.
They wouldn't have to be files. They could be special SQL Modifications to tables / data that already exist. At least, in a more dynamic sense anyway.
